Listen to your body. You want to feel what it’s like to run the brush across the canvas. Try not to think. Paint fast. My goal is to always paint faster. And faster. Close your eyes; the marks become more interesting. Use old brushes and cheap paint to remind yourself it’s not the paint. It’s the painter. Paint on paper. Canvas. And back to paper again. Paint large. Paint small. Paint the in-between sizes too. Tap into the subconscious. It’s easier said than done but when the painting just comes you know. Use every color you can get your hands on. Be a risk-taker. Ruin a perfectly good painting. Create daring, bold, dark marks because that energy is alive. Trust yourself. Have an insane amount of confidence. Make mistakes. Cover them up gladly. Buy expensive canvas. Breathe. Paint from your heart. Paint your heart out. And let other people see what your heart looks like too.
